Lawrence Hinkle

Mr. Lawrence C. Hinkle comes to SDSU with over 40 years experience working in the fields of engineering and education.  A retired engineer from TRW (Ballistic Missiles Division), he managed projects, programs, and computing resources at all levels, and formulated and administered schedules and budgets for millions of dollars.  He has extensive experience in developing strategic plans, system concepts, developing and analyzing requirements, conducting high level and detail designs, performing system integration testing and project administration.

Mr. Hinkle has over 20 years experience on faculty at UCLA, CSU Long Beach, Cal Poly Pomona’s College of Engineering, and now SDSU.  He developed a College of Engineering Consortium comprised of twelve local high schools with formal engineering academies/programs to promote and foster engineering awareness and support.  He is a staunch advocate and supporter of educational awareness programs like PLTW (Project Lead the Way), MESA (Math, Engineering and Science Achievement, ACE (Architecture, Construction, Engineering) Mentoring, and AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) that foster and promote engineering awareness at the high school and junior high school levels.   He has been the Chair, member, and advocate for over 20 years of a MESA Industry Advisory Board and currently sits on the Board of Directors for the ACE Mentoring Program of San Diego County.  This organization gives exposure to high school students into the worlds of architecture, construction, and engineering as they relate to the design industry.  He has been a faculty advisor for NSBE (National Society of Black Engineers) at Cal Poly Pomona and is the current advisor at SDSU.

Mr. Hinkle is a retired U.S. Army Officer (Viet Nam veteran), an accomplished musician and martial artist.
