Cassius Butts

Executive, Entrepreneur & College Professor

Cassius F. Butts was appointed by President Barack Obama in 2011 as Regional Administrator for the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) for the eight states in the southeast region. During his appointment, Cassius has managed oversight of five record-breaking years for SBA lending in Region IV. Nearly $25 billion in SBA-backed loans have been awarded to small businesses during his management tenure. Under Cassius’s leadership, we have witnessed historic lending, record-breaking government contracting dollars awarded, and the highest number of entrepreneurs trained and counseled in the history of SBA.

Cassius is a serial 15-year executive, entrepreneur, and college professor. Since 1992, Cassius has worked in leadership positions for Bank of America, Fleet Bank, and the City of Atlanta.  He was previously employed with the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) where he began his federal career as a Presidential Management Fellow/Branch Chief in 2002 under the Bush Administration.  It was at HUD where he assisted and advised the scoring committee on the newly established Multi-Million Procurement Contract. As a small business owner, Cassius co-founded CB Consulting Group, LLC, which primarily offered entrepreneurial, strategy, and community engagement services.

As an advocate for mutual partnerships; Cassius has decisively forged over 100 strategic alliances with business chambers, associations and foundations.  In 2013, he was appointed to the National Partnership Council and he is an active Policy Board Member for the Atlanta Federal Executive Board.  Cassius is a graduate of Atlanta’s Morehouse College and Clark Atlanta University’s School of Public Administration, and he obtained his Certificate of Grant Writing from Emory University’s Life Learning Institute. Cassius is extremely engaged with the small business community in many capacities and he is a proud 2012 graduate of Leadership Atlanta.
