Dr. Archie Ervin

2016 NAMCO LEADERSHIP DIVERSITY SUMMIT SPEAKER

Dr. Archie Ervin

Vice President for Institute Diversity & Chief Diversity Officer at Georgia Tech

Archie Ervin serves as Georgia Tech’s vice president for Institute Diversity and chief diversity officer. He was first appointed to this position after a national search in 2009-2010 by Georgia Tech President G. P. “Bud” Peterson. Ervin is a member of the President’s Cabinet and is responsible for identifying institutional priorities, policies, programs, and initiatives that advance Georgia Tech’s inclusive excellence agendas for faculty, staff, and students. Institute Diversity oversees the Georgia Tech ADVANCE Program, The Center for the Study of Women, Science, and Technology, LGBTQIA Resource Center, and the recently established Center for Student Diversity and Inclusion, which promotes intercultural learning and academic excellence.

Under his leadership, Tech has gained recognition as a national leader in diversity in higher education as a recipient of the prestigious 2015 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity Award awarded by INSIGHT Into Diversity and with his election as president of the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education (NADOHE) in the same year. In 2013, Ervin led an intentional planning process that resulted in the first-ever strategic plan for diversity at the Institute.

Since arriving at Georgia Tech, he has chaired the University System of Georgia (USG)’s Board of Regents’ Chief Diversity Officers Committee, which plans the annual USG Diversity Summit for diversity officers each year. Ervin also led the formation of a Georgia Chapter of Diversity in Higher Education, which is an official chapter of NADOHE.

Ervin’s priorities at Georgia Tech include initiatives to promote a diverse, equitable, and inclusive campus community with particular emphasis on racial, gender, and socioeconomic equity in the hiring and promotion of faculty and staff and the recruitment of students. His leadership team in Institute Diversity led and collaborated on programs and initiatives that support strategic efforts to promote the Institute’s core values of diversity and inclusion for all members of the Tech community.
